Armenia

Armenia, a landlocked country in the region of Transcaucasia, is situated just south of the majestic Caucasus mountain range, marking the northwestern extremity of Asia. Surrounded by Georgia and Azerbaijan to the north and east, respectively, and neighboring Iran and Turkey to the southeast and west, Armenia holds a significant geographic position. The capital city of Yerevan serves as the cultural, economic, and administrative hub of the country. With an estimated population of around 2.9 million, Armenia is known for its rich history and ancient civilization, tracing its roots back thousands of years. The territory of present-day Armenia constitutes only a fraction of its historical extent, which once stretched from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea and from the Mediterranean to Lake Urmia in modern-day Iran. Armenia faced various external influences and invasions for centuries, enduring challenges to its autonomy. Annexed by Russia during the 19th century, Armenia later became a constituent republic of the Soviet Union. However, on September 23, 1991, Armenia declared independence, marking a new era of sovereignty and self-determination. Today, Armenia continues to thrive as a unitary multiparty republic, preserving its unique cultural heritage and contributing to regional stability in the Transcaucasian region.
